Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa is appreciative of our members and customers that have remained loyal to the soothing mineral waters of our hot springs as well as the Spa that provides such great relaxation, therapeutic treatments and massage. The renovation of the facility is being performed in multiple phases.
The resort has successfully remained open to the public for business during phase I. La Plata County Planning Department has been very supportive and has approved renovation and repair to the aging facility. Included in the approved work is removal of the permanently closed 57-meter pool. In addition to the removal of the pool the site has been prepared for a new pool to be installed. The Designers are very close to finalizing the master plan and the engineers have been engaged to perform final engineered design of the pools. The swimming pool is scheduled to be a resort style pool with a Zero Entry handicap access and 25-meter lap lanes. The new family pool will be 83,000+ gallons. In addition to the swimming pool the Family Area will also include 3 hot mineral water pools. Once the design is complete proposals will be requested for installation by qualified and approved contractors. Durango Hot Springs and the designers are currently searching for these qualified and available contractors. In addition to the design and preparation for a new pool we have also met requirements to shore up the Animas Valley Ditch Company irrigation ditch. The work was required to ensure that the irrigation of the valley is secured while ongoing business of the hot springs continues as well as new construction is being performed. DHS Resort is also working on a new mechanical building to support the water distribution for the existing repairs and replacement as well as the expansion of pools slated for Phase II. For safety and improved parking, the upper overflow parking area has been cut down and leveled to the grade of the existing parking area. All materials have been repurposed on site to support the ongoing work necessary for phase I.
Phase II is also in master plan design which includes a dozen new adult only pools. There will be a range of temperatures and experiences for customers. We are expecting a Grand Opening of Phase I & II for summer of 2020.
Phase III will be renovation and expansion of the main building. The planning for this phase of work is not yet in design and will be expected for a 2022 completion.
Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa is focused on wellness. The facility is ADA compliant and will enhance and improve customer experience. We are implementing new services and enhanced experiences at the resort that will move the organization and the facility to a full-service experience in soaking, spa services, and family enjoyment.
